What is involved?
This programme is designed to improve the subject knowledge and pedagogical knowledge for all practitioners teaching and supporting the learning of early maths.
This one-year programme will include number, shape, space and pattern.
Participants will also explore how children’s learning in all these areas can be supported through the development of the following skills:
-
oracy (including the development of mathematical language)
-
spatial reasoning
-
executive function.
What will you learn?
- Your pupils will confidently communicate and apply their mathematical thinking using appropriate language and representations, explore patterns and connections with a positive attitude, and discuss their ideas openly without fear of making mistakes.
- You will develop confidence in using a range of teaching approaches to support and extend children’s mathematical learning, including modelling mathematical language and thinking throughout everyday activities and provision.
- You will strengthen your maths subject knowledge to plan and sequence meaningful learning opportunities, embedding mathematics across everyday routines while supporting children’s oracy, spatial reasoning, and executive function skills.
What is the cost?
The SKTM Reception Teachers Programme is fully funded by the Maths Hubs Programme so is free to participating schools.
